Issa Rae is pretty dope. In 2011, her YouTube webseries “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” blew up with millions of views. It was popular for its authentic and relatable humor and representation of culture. The series’s popularity and originality resulted in the second season aired on Pharrell Williams’ i am OTHER YouTube channel. In 2012, Issa won a Shorty Award and was named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. She repeated that Forbes honor again in 2014. In 2015, Issa released her book, “The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl” and it became a New York Times best-selling memoir.

Now 31 year-old Issa Rae is breaking mainstream television with her HBO show, “Insecure”, that she co-created with comedian Larry Wilmore. The show depicts a 20-something black woman in her personal and professional life try to navigate the best she can.
