5 Ways to Boost Energy without Caffeine

For energy, I have never been a coffee or soda drinker. How much energy do you have without caffeine? There was a time I felt fatigued and not motivated to do things when I wasn’t working. Now, we all have those days when the only thing we want to do is sit on the couch in some comfy pajamas and watch episodes of our favorite show. We all deserve that once and a while. But I didn’t feel like even doing that. Since I didn’t rely on caffeine for the…

Never Say Never: My Biggest Life Lesson

It’s crazy how life has a way of working itself out. How can you find the answers in the midst of chaos? The answer is you don’t because you can’t. I’ve had my fair share of struggles through which I have learned life’s clichés aren’t just corny, they’re actually true. Here are my favorite clichés: “Sometimes something’s fall apart in order for other things to fall into place”, “Everything happens for a reason” and my own personal favorite, “stop getting mad at things you can’t control.” There’s a common theme…

3 Tips for Detangling Natural Hair

Detangling natural hair can be SUCH a challenge. I won’t lie. I do not like washing my hair, simply because I dread the detangling process. My hair is really thick and I am certain that I have a mixture of 4B and 4C hair type. I love my natural hair and have been growing it for 2 ½ years. My “Naturalversary” will be in May and it will be 3 years for me! Even though I dread it, I wanted to share 3 quick detangling tips for your natural hair…

A Single Gal’s Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

Well ladies, it’s almost here… Valentine’s Day. It’s another single gal’s Valentine’s Day for me and I’m not too mad about it. I decided to use this “holiday” to reflect on the beautiful friendships that I have cultivated and the self-love that I learned to gain over time. Although I don’t have a have significant other or Valentine at the moment, I still respect this holiday for what I believe it was meant to be, people spreading love and light. Also, it’s not the end of the world if you…

My Love is LIT Event Recap

On Friday, February 3, we hosted “My Love is LIT”, which was a painting session at Mimosa and a Masterpiece and a self-love workshop. We were so excited to host this event, especially with Valentine’s Day coming up. It can be difficult for our sisterfriends to remember who they should love first, themselves. We gave them a resource, “30 Ways to Love Yourself Daily” and had them write down words that are reasons why they love themselves. We incorporated those words into our paintings. It was so nice to connect…

6 Ways to Fight Anxiety and Depression

Since I was an early teen, I have always struggled with depression. In the last few years, anxiety was added to the mix. These aren’t uncommon struggles, especially amongst African-Americans. However, we are less likely to do anything about it and choose to silence ourselves and our emotions. According to an article from the Huffington Post, data from the CDC showed that African-Americans are more likely to report major depression, but less likely to seek treatment. In our community, we look at therapy and counseling as bad words. They aren’t….

You May Be An Ambivert Too

For a large part of my life, I was convinced that I was an extrovert. I think that I am friendly (for the most part), have an approachable countenance, and I am great at initiating conversation. I love parties and social gatherings. I have been that way for pretty much all of my life but as I am getting older, I am starting to notice a few things about myself change. Right after college, I realized that I valued alone time. I would become energized in the presence of company,…

Back to the Basics: What I Wish I Knew Before I Went Natural

I remember when I started my hair journey almost four years ago. I didn’t quite really know what to expect or what I needed for my hair. Everything I know now I wished I would have known in the beginning of my journey. But don’t we all? After talking to a few of my friends who are transitioning, I realized there are some staple items everyone should have in their bathroom. Denman Brush This brush became my best friend as I transitioned and even now. There’s no way I would…
