Create Your Own Self-Care Retreat

Create Your Own Self-Care Retreat

Self-care is essential in preserving ourselves and our well-being. But sometimes self-care pampering practices like bubble baths and wine nights with our girlfriends are not enough to fully restore us, especially when times are stressful. Sometimes, we need an intentional break from our roles in life. However, when traveling and taking a vacation is not an option, an at-home self-care retreat is a great replacement to recharge and relax affordably. An at-home wellness retreat will help revive your energy while giving you the opportunity to rest from your normal daily routine. Whether you need the retreat to purge, restore creativity or simply for some R&R. There are a couple of things you will need to prepare before the retreat can begin. Here are some things to consider while planning your DIY self-care retreat:

Give Your Retreat A Purpose

There are a couple of questions you must ask yourself before your retreat takes place. Some of these questions should include:

  1. Why am I doing this?

  2. What are my intentions for this retreat?

  3. How long will it be? Do I need one day or a couple of days?

  4. What activities will I be participating in at this time to ensure I get rest?

  5. Where will it take place? Can I get the restoration and rest that I need at home? Can I afford an AirBnB or a hotel room in my city for this time?

The key to a successful and relaxing retreat is preparation. Answering these questions will optimize your time during this resting period because you will know exactly what to do in order to get what you need out of it.

Activities You Can Do During the Retreat

  1. Tap into your hobbies that you never have time to do or try new ones you have always wanted to explore.

  2. Make your own spa treatments using recipes from Pinterest. You also could treat yourself by buying that face mask and other skincare products you have been eyeing.

  3. Journaling is a great activity to do during a retreat because it can help you clear your mind and organize your thoughts. If you want to write but have no idea what to write about, get back on Pinterest or search the web for journaling prompts to get you started.

  4. Take an inventory of your life. Divide the aspects of your life into separate categories and assess where you are being fulfilled as well as where you are lacking. You can do this by ranking them on a scale of 1-10 or you could make a pros and cons list of these categories as well.

  5. Take the retreat outside! You do not have to actually be outdoors if that is not your thing. However, taking yourself on a much-needed date and participating in a fun activity is always a great way to distract your mind from your troubles!

  6. SLEEP! You should not only rest your mind but also your body at this time.

After the Retreat

Take time to reflect after your self-care retreat. Think about what activities you enjoyed and consider which activities you want to implement into your self-care routine. Hopefully you feel rested and renewed after this time period that you designated to yourself and it can become something that you regularly do!
